Voicethread would be a great tool for me to have students demonstrate that they not only know how to solve a particular math problem, but that they can take their understanding to a whole new level by explaining to me the steps they used to solve the problem. In today's world of PSSA and Keystone Exams, a student must be able to explain how he or she solved the problem as opposed to just solving the problem. A solid explanation would be the difference between proficient and advanced on the PSSA. I could have students solve a math problem and take a picture after every step. The students would then upload their pictures to Voicethread. In each picture, the students would explain the steps and processes that they used to get from the previous picture to the current picture. This would prove to me that the students not only know how to solve the problem, but that they understand the concepts behind the problem solving.
